MAIN DESTINATION

The Maldives is famous for a number of reasons, including its vibrant culture, pristine beaches, sprawling greenery, and fascinating landmarks. Apart from the numerous enchanting landmarks, Maldives is also famous for water sports and other adventure activities. CAPITAL CITY

Male

The city is located at the southern edge of the North Male Atoll (Kaafu Atoll), about 740 km (460 miles) southwest of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Formerly Male was the King's Island, a walled city surrounded by forts (Kotte) and bastions.
 

CURRENCY

Maldivian Rufiyaa
The Maldives has a non-convertible currency – Maldivian Rufiyaa – which cannot be purchased beforehand. One Rufiyaa is 100 Laari and is available in 500, 100, 50-, 20-, 10- and 5-Rufiyaa notes. The US Dollar is accepted as legal tender throughout the Maldives.
 

MAIN AIRPORT

Velena International Airport is the main international airport in the Maldives. It is located on Hulhoke Island in the North Male Atoll, nearby the capital island Malé. The airport is well connected with major airports around the world, mostly serving as the main gateway into the Maldives for tourists.

PEAK SEASON

There are distinct wet (southwest monsoon) and dry (northeast monsoon) seasons; the peak season for the Maldives is between December and April when the climate is drier, it's less windy and the weather is hotter.

LOW SEASON

Maldives Low Season: May to November
Head on to June and August time when you can expect cooler climates, more rain, and cloudier days. November marks the end of the off-season, and it's in this month that you can expect average temperatures of 27°C, and around six hours of sunshine a day.

TEMPERATURE 

Climate and Average Weather Year-Round in Maldives. The climate in Maldives is hot, oppressive, windy, and overcast. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 80°F to 88°F and is rarely below 77°F or above 90°F.
