Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, the nation and former Soviet republic is bounded by the Caspian Sea and Caucasus Mountains, which span Asia and Europe. Its capital, Baku, is famed for its medieval walled Inner City. Within the Inner City lies the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, a royal retreat dating to the 15th century, and the centuries-old stone Maiden Tower, which dominates the city skyline.

The Location

Azerbaijan is a country located on two continents: Asia and Europe. It can be considered a part of Eastern Europe, Western Asia, as well as part of the Middle East because it lies at the borders of these areas. It is situated on the west side of the Caspian Sea. To its north is Russia and to its northwest is Georgia. Armenia lies to its west. To the south of Azerbaijan is Iran. Officially called the Republic of Azerbaijan, it became independent from the Soviet Union in 1991.

Main Airport

Heydar Aliyev International Airport is one of the seven international airports serving Azerbaijan. Formerly, it was called Bina International Airport after a suburb of Baku. On 10 March 2004, the airport was renamed after President Heydar Aliyev. 

Capital City

The capital of Azerbaijan is Baku, which is located on its east coast. Baku loosely translates to "windy," which describes the persistent weather in the city by the Caspian Sea.

Language Spoken

The official language in Azerbaijan is Azerbaijani, which is a Turkic language. There are also many minority languages, some of which include Lezgi and Talysha. But the most common minority languages in Azerbaijan are Russian and Armenian.

Currency

The manat is the currency of Azerbaijan. It is subdivided into 100 garpikes. The first iteration of the currency happened in the times of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and its successor, the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic, with the issues happening in 1919–1923.

Peak Season

The best time to visit Azerbaijan is April to June and September to October, which will let you avoid the 40°C summers and subzero winters - particularly in the mountains. You can also participate in the Novruz Bayrami celebrations each March, which mark the Persian New Year.

Low season 

Between the months of January and march the climate is bad. the thermometer goes up to 54°F°C and it rains in March about 1.1in. In April the climate is not good, but still OK. The record temperature this month is 79°F and you can expect to have 0.8in of rainfall/month during this period.

Temperature

The average annual temperature is 14–15 °C (57–59 °F) in the Kur-Araz Lowland, the coastal regions south to the Asheton Peninsula, and in the Lenko ran Lowland.
