India (Hindi: भारत or Bharat), the largest country in South Asia, has many of the world's highest mountains, most populated cities, and longest rivers. India's heritage and culture are a rich amalgam of the past and present. This vast country, the second most populous in the world and set to become number one, offers the traveler a view of fascinating religions and ethnography, a smorgasbord of languages, and architectural masterpieces that were built millennia ago and remain intact today.

The Location

The Indian landmass has a central location between East and West Asia. India is a southward extension of the Asian continent. The trans-Indian Ocean routes, which connect the countries of Europe in the West and the countries of East Asia, provide a strategic central location to India.

Capital City

New Delhi is the national capital of India. It is situated in the north-central part of the country on the west bank of the Yamuna River, adjacent to and just south of Delhi city (Old Delhi) and within the Delhi national capital territory.

Situated in the heart of the country, Indira Gandhi International Airport is the busiest in India. With three swanky Terminals, this airport has become the most important aviation hub in India with a capacity of handling more than 46 million passengers. The airport is a major hub for international flights, and its new avatar includes shopping plazas, passenger lounges, retail outlets, and Food courts. The airport was awarded the fourth-best airport in the world by the Airport Council International.

Language Spoken

Hindi, the most commonly spoken language in India today, serves as the lingua franca across much of North and Central India. Bengali is the second most spoken and understood language in the country with a significant number of speakers in Eastern and Northeastern regions.

Currency

The Indian rupee (sign: ₹; currency code: INR) is the official currency of India. The rupee is subdivided into 100 paise (singular: paisa), though as of 2019, coins of the denomination of 1 rupee are the lowest value in use. The issuance of the currency is controlled by the Reserve Bank of India.  

Peak Season

As the weather cools down, India enters its high tourist season which lasts from October through March (to be more exact, from November to mid-February). During this period, the climate in most of the country is delightful without the hotness of summer and humidity of monsoon season (from June to September).

Low Season 
The beginning of May until the end of September is considered off-season time for tourism in India. This period is divided into two seasons weather-wise i.e., May to June (summer season) and July to September (monsoon season)

Temperature
The hottest month in this entire period was May 1998 at 33.3 °C. January 1995 was the coldest month with an average temperature of 20.5 °C. The average annual temperature was about 26.9 °C in the years after 1990 and about 27.4 °C in the last years before 2021.
