Malaysia was once ranked 9th in the world for tourist arrivals. The Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2017 ranks Malaysia 25th out of 141 countries overall. In an effort to diversify the economy and make Malaysia's economy less dependent on exports, the government pushed to increase tourism in Malaysia.

The Location
Malaysia is a Southeast Asian country occupying parts of the Malay Peninsula and the island of Borneo. It's known for its beaches, rainforests and mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and European cultural influences. The capital, Kuala Lumpur, is home to colonial buildings, busy shopping districts such as Bukit Bintang, and skyscrapers such as the iconic, 451m-tall Petronas Twin Towers.

Main Airport
Kuala Lumpur International Airport is Malaysia's main international airport. It is located in the Sepang District of Selangor, approximately 45 kilometers south of Kuala Lumpur, and serves the city's greater conurbation. KLIA is the largest and busiest airport in Malaysia.

Capital City
Kuala Lumpur is the capital of Malaysia. Its modern skyline is dominated by the 451m-tall Petronas Twin Towers, a pair of glass-and-steel-clad skyscrapers with Islamic motifs. The towers also offer a public sky bridge and observation deck. The city is also home to British colonial-era landmarks such as the Kuala Lumpur Railway Station and the Sultan Abdul Samad Building.

Language Spoken
The official language of Malaysia is Malay language. There are 10 dialects of Malay used throughout Malaysia. Malay became predominant after the 13 May Incident. A variant of the Malay language that is spoken in Brunei is also commonly spoken in East Malaysia.
Malay is an Austronesian language that is an official language of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, and that is also spoken in East Timor and parts of the Philippines and Thailand. Altogether, it is spoken by 290 million people across Maritime Southeast Asia.

Peak Season
Malaysia is said to have two peak seasons, one of them being during the winter (December - February) season and the other being during the summer (June - August) season. A huge footfall is noticed during these months due to school vacations and favorable weather conditions.

Low season

The low season is between March and June, which is when the country experiences the worst rains coupled with low humidity. Most attractions, particularly those by the beach, may be closed or inoperable at this time.

Temperature

Malaysia's mean annual temperature is 25.4°C. There is relatively little seasonal variability in average monthly temperature, ranging one degree Celsius between a minimum of 24.9°C in January and a maximum of 25.9°C in May. April, May, and June are the hottest months of the year.
